David Bowie Labyrinth Costume

Do you remember the movie Labyrinth? Nearly everyone does and today I am going to try and recreate the
David Bowie Labyrinth Costume
David Bowie Labyrinth costume because I think it is one of the most awesome Halloween costume ideas ever!. Bowie played the character perfectly and was creepy enough to be memorable to anyone who has ever watched Labyrinth.

I have listed all the different parts of the costume and where you can buy them below so you can create your own Labyrinth costume.

The actual costume worn by David or Jareth the Goblin King isn't actually that complicated but to get the overall look perfect you will have to customize it a little bit to make it look authentic! If you are planning a group costume there are so many other ideas you can get from Labyrinth.

I haven't been able to find anywhere to buy a Jareth costume in full so to get this look you will have to assemble the individual pieces to make the costume youself but it's pretty easy so don't worry, if you want to dress up as David Bowie from Labyrinth, you still can!

First let's take a look at the man himself, now remember you can be a little creative with your costume as Jareth wore several different outfits during Labyrinth. Here he is during the ballroom scene above. So let's start gathering the bits that would make up this Jareth costume.

This costume will work well for both male or female.

The Wig

Possibly the most important part of the Jareth costume is getting the wig right, this one (see above ) from amazon is probably the best match without spending a fortune. Not a bad match!

The Clothes

The outfits that Bowie wore in Labyrinth are pretty similar, his whole look should be pretty easy to replicate so lets take a look at some of the options that might work below.

For the Legs - Ideally a pair of leather leggings or tight black trousers will work well for this costume, for women there are tons of choices, in both real leather and faux, for men (or women) a simple pair of black skinny jeans like these Black Super Skinny Jeans will work too. (see image right)

Just make sure the ones you choose are tight, they need to be to get the look just right.

The Top - finding the right top is slightly more difficult, this is where you may have to compromise a little to get something that works. If you happen to own a black leather trench coat already that would look great but most of you probably don't want to spend a ton of money on this costume so you could always check out local thrift stores. Other options that might work are:

The shirt needs to have frills like this one from Amazon here Gothic Renaissance Medieval Costume Shirt

That could absolutely work for this costume, now we need a tight waist coat and a long jacket to go over the whole costume.
A simple low neck black waistcoat will go over the shirt nicely, we want the frills from the shirt to show, this one should work okay Slim Fit Dress Vest Waistcoat

Finally we will need the long jacket, a pair of black boots, preferably with heels and black gloves. These superhero costume gloves are pretty cheap so they should do Superhero Costume Gloves

If you have black boots they will probably work okay, if not there is no point in going out and buying a new pair, ask around, someone might have a pair that will work.

As for the jacket or trenchcoat, buying a new one probably isn't an option either so again, if you can borrow do, if not look at some cheap costume jackets that might work like the one's below. A leather jacket would work best but you should be able to find something that will work okay.

So lets take a look at what we have so far....
Okay, apart from the incredibly poor photoshopping (try and imagine him with arms at least!), the costume is coming together! Now all you need to do is apply the makeup, lots of glitter, and you are ready to go.

What do you think?
