Do you remember the movie Labyrinth? Nearly everyone does and today I am going to try and recreate the
David Bowie Labyrinth costume because I think it is one of the most awesome Halloween costume ideas ever!. Bowie played the character perfectly and was creepy enough to be memorable to anyone who has ever watched Labyrinth.

I have listed all the different parts of the costume and where you can buy them below so you can create your own Labyrinth costume.

The actual costume worn by David or Jareth the Goblin King isn't actually that complicated but to get the overall look perfect you will have to customize it a little bit to make it look authentic! If you are planning a group costume there are so many other ideas you can get from Labyrinth.

I haven't been able to find anywhere to buy a Jareth costume in full so to get this look you will have to assemble the individual pieces to make the costume yourself but it's pretty easy so don't worry, if you want to dress up as David Bowie from Labyrinth, you still can!

*UPDATE you can now find a selection of full Jareth Labyrinth costumes for sale on amazon.com or if you prefer to make your own unique homemade Labyrinth costume, read on...
First let's take a look at the man himself, now remember you can be a little creative with your costume as Jareth wore several different outfits during Labyrinth. Here he is during the ballroom scene below. So let's start gathering the bits that would make up this Jareth costume.

This costume will work well for both male or female.

DIY Jareth Ballroom Costume from Labyrinth

This is the look we are going to try recreate

The Jareth Wig

Possibly the most important part of the Jareth costume is getting the wig right, this one (see image ) from amazon is probably the best match without spending a fortune. Not a bad match!

The only thing missing from this wig is the blue tints, it looks pretty white in the image but the reviews over on Amazon say its more blond/yellow, however, the style is perfect for the Goblin King! You can add a little gel to give it a more defined look.

The Clothes - Getting the Jareth Ballroom Look

The outfits that Bowie wore in Labyrinth are pretty similar, his whole look should be pretty easy to replicate so lets take a look at some of the options that might work specifically for the ballroom scene below.

For the Legs

Ideally a pair of leather leggings or tight black trousers will work well for this costume, (you can see the look of the Jarlet outfit better in the action figure above) for women there are tons of choices, in both real leather and faux, for men (or women) a simple pair of black skinny jeans will work too.
Just make sure the ones you choose are tight, they need to be to get the look just right. I like the look of these ones

Jareth Ballroom Jacket and Shirt

The Top - finding the right top is slightly more difficult, this is where you may have to compromise a little to get something that works. If you happen to own a black leather trench coat already that would look great but most of you probably don't want to spend a ton of money on this costume so you could always check out local thrift stores. Other options that might work are:

The shirt needs to have frills like this one from Amazon here Mens Renaissance Medieval Costume Shirt

That could absolutely work for this costume, now we need a tight waist coat and a long jacket to go over the whole costume.
It's not easy to find a nice blue tailcoat that matches Jareths look perfectly but there are some compromises in color and shape that I think are pretty good replacements.

Finally along with the long jacket, you will need a pair of black boots, preferably with heels and black or white gloves.

If you have black boots they will probably work okay, if not there is no point in going out and buying a new pair, ask around, someone might have a pair that will work.

You might also want to pick up a crystal ball to complete the costume! It's not really necessary but it does add some authenticity to the costume!

Hopefully by now you will have a good idea of the type of Goblin King outfit you would like to recreate

Okay, apart from the incredibly poor photoshopping (try and imagine him with arms at least!), you can see that a costume like this is not too difficult to recreate! Now all you need to do is apply the makeup, lots of glitter, and you are ready to go.

What do you think? Have you dressed as the Goblin King or are you planning to for Halloween this year, Id love to hear about your ideas!
